Colina Underwriter is second in the country to earn top industry designation
NASSAU, January 8, 2010 – Colina Insurance Limited is pleased to announce that underwriter Kenray Marsh has completed a fellowship from the Academy of Life Underwriting, a professional programme sponsored by the Association of Home Office Underwriters and the Canadian Institute of Underwriters. Marsh is only the second Bahamian underwriter to receive the FALU designation. He is in good company, joining Angela Taylor, Director of Underwriting and New Business at Colina, who earned the designation in 1995. Marsh and Taylor are among only five FALU recipients in the Caribbean region.
The FALU designation recognizes Marsh as an underwriting professional with advanced qualifications in risk classification with legal and actuarial exposure, and gives him appropriate recognition for the progressive core skills and knowledge acquired during the course of his professional development.
“Colina congratulates Kenray on this standout achievement,” said Executive Vice Chairman, Emanuel Alexiou. “The FALU programme is not an easy one and we commend him for his dedication to developing his skills and contributing to the collective knowledge and experience of Colina. With these credentials on board in-house, we are equipped in a way that is unprecedented in the Bahamian insurance industry. Such professionalism will allow us to continue to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our operations and service delivery to clients.”
The programme was created to provide a study programme specifically for professional home office life underwriters. Marsh was required to undergo a four-part designation process as a prerequisite to become a Fellow of the Academy. Along with the standard curriculum, Marsh also completed courses from the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) programme.
“The process for earning the FALU was a bit strenuous at times, especially with the large amount of material from the medical field that had to be covered for each examination,” he says. “However, the knowledge gained from preparing for the examinations has proven to be very beneficial as it prepared me for many of the different cases seen by an underwriter on a daily basis. I must admit that it feels great to achieve the highest designation in my profession, but I know there is so much more to learn that will only come with experience.”
Marsh has been employed with Colina in the underwriting department since 2006. He is a 2004 graduate of Acadia University, Nova Scotia, Canada, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He is married to Todney Marsh, and they have two children: Leander and Jonathan.
