Home to a vibrant local population with a love for fishing and boating, Exuma hosts one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious regattas – The National Family Island Regatta, established in 1954. Small sailboats, called sloops, are raced at regatta in a festival-like atmosphere with live music, food and a number of onshore activities to entertain enthusiasts.
The Three Sisters Rocks (pictured) in Exuma is the subject of local lore. A long time ago, three sisters fell in love with a visiting Englishman unbeknownst to each other. On the day of his departure, they swam out to meet his boat and confront him, drowning in the process. The rocks supposedly sprung up at the spots where the sisters drowned that day.
