Addressing Sexual Harassment at National Women’s Week

Colina Partners with Stakeholders to Champion for Safe and Respectful Workplaces

Nassau, The Bahamas, November 28, 2025 – Colina Insurance Limited participated in the Department of Gender and Family Affairs’ National Women’s Week Sexual Harassment Forum, joining national leaders to advance safer, more respectful workplaces across The Bahamas.

Presenters delved deeply into the psychological impact of sexual harassment, the policy frameworks that support prevention and redress, and the realities of gender discrimination that shape workplace culture. Colina acknowledges that sexual harassment has an impact on everyone, with women facing the brunt of its effects. The company is committed to creating a safe and equitable environment for all.

“Colina currently maintains a policy regarding harassment in the workplace,” expressed Patricia Bain, Director of Human Resources. She explained that as laws are updated, so will the policy. “Policy will be reviewed to align with new and current legislation and evolving best practices.”

Patricia emphasised the company’s commitment to trust and safety. “Our focus is on building trust—so colleagues feel safe, supported, and respected, and know that concerns will be addressed promptly and appropriately.”

Maxine V. Seymour, Director of Communications, stressed the importance of setting professional standards in workplace behaviour. “While some practices may be considered cultural, we must be clear: much of what occurs in workplaces across our country is unacceptable behaviour that can be categorised as sexual harassment,” said Maxine.

She added, “We must have clear boundaries as professionals in the workplace. Respect is not optional—it is the foundation of how we work, lead, and serve.”

Held during National Women’s Week, the forum convened government, law enforcement, civil society, and private sector partners to strengthen awareness, accountability, and policy implementation in the workplace. Alongside Maxine Seymour and Patricia Bain was Natasha Burrows, Human Resources Administrator, representing Colina and reinforcing the company’s commitment to safe and respectful workplaces.
