Colina Sponsors 2026 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards

Leading insurer marks 12 years of support for youth awards program

Nassau, The Bahamas, April 13, 2026 – Colina Insurance Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to youth achievement by serving as a patron sponsor of the 2026 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation Awards Program, marking its 12th year of support for the initiative.

The foundation received a $4,000 check on April 13 at Colina’s corporate headquarters on East Bay Street. The donation will fund a scholarship for the 13th-place finisher among 123 nominees.

“We are grateful for Colina’s support and for its investment in the lives of students over the years, especially as we celebrate our 30th anniversary,” said Ricardo Deveaux, president and chief executive officer of the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation.

“At Colina, we recognize that investing in young people is one of the most important ways we can help shape a stronger future for our country,” said Maxine V. Seymour, director of corporate communications at Colina. “For over a decade, it has been our privilege to support a program that not only celebrates excellence, but also affirms the promise, character and leadership potential of our nation’s youth. We are proud to support an initiative that empowers students to dream boldly, lead confidently and pursue every opportunity available to them.”

Events marking the foundation’s 30th anniversary include a youth march and rally on Saturday, May 23, at 9:30 a.m. at The Mall at Marathon, at the former Galleria Cinemas entrance. The event will feature a performance by the Aquinas College Marching Band. Former award nominees, youth groups, family members, friends and parents are encouraged to attend and cheer on the 2026 nominees.

Later that evening, nominees in the 30th annual Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program, representing 14 islands, will compete at Bahamas Faith Ministries International for more than $286,000 in scholarships and more than $65,000 in prizes. The title of 2026 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year is also up for grabs.

The foundation will host an appreciation luncheon to pay tribute to the donors, sponsors, partners and individuals whose support has helped make a meaningful impact, on Sunday, May 24, at 1 p.m. at the Paul Farquharson Conference Center, Royal Bahamas Police Force Headquarters, East Street.

Since 1997, The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation Awards Program has awarded $3.3 million in scholarships and prizes to more than 3,200 students throughout The Bahamas.

Deveaux launched the program in 1997 with 31 students, but the idea began in 1992. While a graduate student at Nova Southeastern University, he was selected as a finalist in the Florida College Student of the Year Awards Program. That experience inspired him to return to The Bahamas and create an awards initiative for Bahamian students. Over the past 30 years, the program has grown into one of the nation’s most prestigious and widely recognized student awards initiatives.
