Colina employees receive awards from Institute of Internal Auditors

Nassau, The Bahamas, May 30, 2026 – Colina Insurance Limited employees Alicia Smith, senior internal auditor; and Machara Tucker, internal audit and compliance professional, were celebrated and awarded for their successes and contributions to the internal auditing profession, during the 35th anniversary celebration and awards ceremony of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Bahamas Chapter, held on May 30 at The Balmoral.

Alicia received the Distinguished Senior Internal Auditor award. She was recognized by the institute for her experience in operational, compliance and fraud-related audits; her expertise in governance, risk management, and internal controls; her active contribution to the internal audit profession, her designation as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and her dedication to continuous growth and professional excellence.

According to the IIA, the Distinguished Senior Internal Auditor Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional technical expertise, strong audit execution, and meaningful professional impact within the internal audit profession.

“This award celebrates professionals whose dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence continue to strengthen governance, accountability, and organizational success across The Bahamas,” noted the IIA.

Commenting on her award, Alicia said: “This recognition reflects my commitment to excellence, as well as my dedication to integrity, transparency, and continuous self-improvement.”

She continued: “This recognition is especially meaningful to me, and I am thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to contribute, learn, and develop alongside so many talented professionals in the industry.”

Machara received the Distinguished Internal Auditor award. She was recognized for her over seven years of experience in risk management and compliance, her experience across financial and regulatory sectors, her advocacy for governance, audit excellence, and professional development; her designation as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and a Certified Risk and Compliance Management Professional (CRCMP), and her role as treasurer of the Bahamas Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

The IIA noted that the Distinguished Internal Auditor Award recognizes professionals who have demonstrated outstanding growth, dedication, and commitment to the internal audit profession early in their careers.

“This award represents the future of the profession, highlighting individuals who embody professionalism, continuous learning, and the potential to become future leaders within the industry,” the IIA pointed out.

“Excellence in internal audit comes from precision, perseverance, and purpose, and I am grateful for this recognition of my journey,” said Machara.

The institute’s awards ceremony capped off several events celebrating its 35th anniversary, which occurred during Internal Audit Awareness Month.
