Big Majors Cay, located in The Exumas, is home to the world-famous “Swimming Pigs”. Not usually thought of as marine animals, these pigs spend their days swimming and lounging in the cool sand.
On April 3, 1980, a proclamation declaring The Bahamas Defence Force a legal entity was tabled in the House of Assembly. Earlier that day, Commodore William Swinley, Captain Derek Matthews and marines hoisted the official Commonwealth naval white ensign at the Coral Harbour base with Rodney Bain, Cabinet Secretary, in attendance.
